Love is Giving; Fear is Taking
Just as love is giving, so is fear taking. In fact, there is only emptiness. How we view it becomes our taking or giving. Giving is always grand, beautiful and expanding. Taking is always small, lonely, separate and contracted.
Picture standing outside, and it’s a beautiful sunny day. However, you give your back to the sun and can only see your shadow You think you are that shadow because wherever you go, there you are. Now you feel a lack and, because of this belief of lack, you start trying to take from others in order to fill that lack. You become a beggar in life. When you turn to face the sun, you will feel its nurturing warmth, and, within that feeling become a natural giver of your light that is emanated from the sun.
In reality, there is no good or bad. There is no negative or positive. There is only taking or giving—LOVE or FEAR.
Taking always feels negative and giving always feels positive.
Here’s an example. Think of all the negative feelings that are held inside and, for a moment, observe their TAKING power.
LONELINESS: “I want someone to take care of me.” Yet, there’s inability nor desire to care for another. If there were then loneliness would be impossible.
ANGER: “I want it this way darn it.” Anger is control because there is the feeling of inner lack of control. It’s trying to take what it can at that moment.
RESENTMENT: “I don’t like the way you’ve acted.” It’s based on separation and, it’s taking because you are not considering the other person but only the way you would like them to be.
DEPRESSION: Depression happens when the taking reaches its zenith and then there’s a crash of energy. Taking zaps all energy from the soul. When enough taking has taken place, there’s a general down-spiral called depression of mind, body, and soul.
PSYCHOLOGICAL FEAR: Psychological fear, which is a form of anxiety, is the feeling of losing something. “If I do that I might be embarrassed.” “What if people laugh at me.” “What if I fail.”
The feeling of taking embodies the feeling of loss. This is where greed, selfishness, insecurity and possessiveness come from. TAKING, therefore, implies not giving of oneself for fear of loss—loss of time, loss of money, loss of recognition, loss of identity, loss of attention and so on.
In brief, all negativity is the “taking” attitude and fear of giving. Fear of giving is the fear of emptiness. We think, “If I give I will have less and therefore feel lack.” In contrast, giving is love and is always positive. Giving recognizes our connection.
I have heard of clubs where they get together to perform random acts of kindness. This is giving. This is pure love. It is the natural recognition of our natural connectedness.
